What to do with that old mattress, it's actually a surprisingly tricky question on first consideration! We all have at least one mattress in our homes and if you haven't already, you will at some point be faced with the question of what to do with the old mattress when you decide to but a new one!
For some people, often living in highly urbanised environments it can even stop them changing their mattress! That doesn't have to be the case though. It's actually not as difficult as you first imagine to dispose of an old mattress.
Double Bed Mattress
Depending on the size of the mattress, if you have your own transport you may be able to roll the mattress up and bring it to a local land fill or dump yourself. Disposal charges are usually quite low. In the environmentally conscious times we live in now, you should probably be factoring in the cost of responsible disposal into the budget for your new mattress anyway.
If you don't have your own car or if your mattress is too big to fit in anyway, things can unfortunately get a little more expensive and you can find the budget for you new mattress being squeezed that bit tighter! The likelihood is that you'll need to schedule a private waste contractor to pick up the mattress. This is obviously far more convenient, but convenience comes at a price!
If neither of these two options is feasible for you, a third option is to limit you mattress shopping (for the new mattress) to retailers that will agree to come and collect your old mattress! This is obviously a problem that afflicts a lot of mattress shoppers so retailers have caught on, and many now offer this service to gain an advantage over the competition. Even if it's not a service that a retailer is advertising, propose it as a sweetener in the deal, the retailer will very possibly agree in an effort to make a sale, especially in the current climate!
